Salvatore Wildlife Rescue Inc. was founded in Sterling, MA in 2024 and is both a registered Massachusetts Charity and 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization (EIN: 33-2554466).

We specialize in the care of small (non-rabies vector) mammals, but are also able and happy to accommodate a select number of reptiles and amphibians.  We are a smaller volume facility which operates year-round and are a member of WRAM, NYSWRC, NWRA, and IWRC

Meet the Rehabber

Welcome!  My name is Stephanie and I am a former vet tech and medical lab professional who has loved caring for the health of animals my entire life.

After living out of state for almost a decade I moved back to MA and had repeated encounters with an emaciated mangy fox in my yard.  I spent weeks tracking and (unsuccessfully) trying to catch him before he passed away.  I didn't like that.  Certainly not the outcome, but I also hated how powerless I felt; I could tell that the skills and knowledge to help wildlife were out there, but I just didn't have them...yet.  Salvatore Wildlife Rescue was born out of those feelings.

Since wildlife rehabilitation is unpaid- rehabbers are highly trained, but we volunteer our time and donate resources to this cause- most folks have to find a balance between their paid jobs and the unpaid animal care they are doing; I am somewhat unusual (and very lucky) in that I am able to do this full time.  I feel so strongly in helping every animal which comes through my door, to give these animals the care that best supports each specific individual.  Whether that entails healing the sick or injured, administering hospice care to the ones who come in dying, or raising and wilding up orphans until they are returned to nature, I consider all of it to be of vital importance.  Some of these outcomes are definitely easier on the heart, but they are all successes in my book.

When I am not cleaning cages, bandaging wounds, or feeding babies, I like to spend time with my husband and children (and our cats!), garden, take walks in the forest, and create- baking and fiber arts being particularly strong passions of mine.  I am a fan of the Oxford comma, double spacing after periods, and using the royal We online.

Thanks so much for being Salvatore Wildlife's partner in caring for local wildlife!
